A Prahran Institution Since 1877

For nearly 150 years, The College Lawn Hotel has been a cornerstone of the Prahran community, welcoming locals and visitors alike since its first license was granted in 1877.

Positioned at the heart of Greville Street’s growth, the hotel thrived as Chapel Street and the surrounding precinct boomed. Its prime location and strong local following made it a hub for political meetings, social gatherings, and everyday celebrations.

The pub’s reputation as a refined establishment has endured through time, with a 1922 real estate ad declaring it “one of Melbourne’s most exclusive businesses and homes.”

In 1935, a major renovation expanded the hotel, adding seven new bedrooms and a larger dining space, setting the stage for its continued success. Today, the beer garden hums with energy, the bar and restaurant remain lively, and the upstairs rooms still accommodate guests, just as they did in the 1880s.

As it nears its 150th anniversary, The College Lawn Hotel continues to be a beloved local institution, proving that some great pubs only get better with age.
